About us
In 2020 we (Henrique and Ayesha) opened Portugália Tasca, a contemporary Portuguese eatery in the city centre of Amsterdam. Portugália Tasca is a sequel to Restaurant Portugália, the restaurant that Henrique’s parents Amelia and Antonio opened in 2002, in the Kerkstraat in Amsterdam.
‘In the 80's my parents moved from Portugal to the Netherlands, the country where I was born. It was always my mother's dream to have her own restaurant, a dream which has been fulfilled with Restaurant Portugália. She is a great cook, and the Portuguese kitchen is her pride.
Restaurant Portugália is a true family restaurant, as it is supposed to be in Portugal. From an early age onwards I have been working in the restaurant as well, where I have learned the tricks of the trade. But as it goes with children, now is the time to go my own way. Together with my girlfriend Ayesha, Portugália Tasca is a restaurant of the next generation, building on my parents’ family tradition, but with our own modern touch. With the cosiness and pure dishes of a tasca, in a beautiful, contemporary designed restaurant.
With Portugália Tasca, our dream comes true. And just like Amelia, we too are driven by passion for our profession, and by passion for Portugal, the food, people and the culture. We will continue to bring Portugal to Amsterdam. Literally, because our dishes are made from Portuguese products. Everything is homemade, right down to our bread.
Because if the basis is right, you don't need much more.
That is the Portuguese feeling we hope to convey to the people of Amsterdam. The feeling of coming home, Portuguese style.’
